Tallest Tower Contest

Equipment: Plenty of straws and masking tape

Split players into teams. With this game letting them choose their own team is probably ideal. You don't want groups of more than six people. Distribute an equal amount of straws and a roll of tape to each group. You may want to do a little demonstration on how to tear masking tape with your fingers as that is a skill that most kids are never actually taught. Explain that the goal is to make the tallest free-standing (not attached to the floor or leaning on anything) tower that they can in the time provided using only the straws and tape.

As they are doing it, make sure you are warning them at intervals how much time they have left (I recommend giving them 20 - 30 minutes). When they are done, whichever team has the tallest tower wins.
